The Coffee Shop Days
Published in Paperback by Xlibris Corporation (July, 2001)
Author: Daniel J. Lukoff
Average review score:

A True, Modern American Story
The Coffee shop days is the story of a teenage alcoholic and criminal named Ben, his life and struggles one the streets of San Jose, California, the book chronicles his adventures ((and misadventures)) in crime, drugs, relationships, and alcholism.
It does not get much more real than this, the author writes in a way that draws you into the story, the characters are very real and interact in a way that reminds you of people you know, or local figures of lore, such as the birdman of alcatraz.
If you liked American Beauty or The Catcher in the Rye, you will like this True american story.

The Cognitive Psychology of False Memories: A Special Issue of the Journal <i>Cognitive Neuropsychology</i>
Published in Library Binding by Psychology Pr (01 July, 1999)
Author: Daniel L. Schacter
Average review score:

Publisher's Note:
People sometimes remember events that never happened. These illusory or false memories have important practical implications in various aspects of everyday life, and also have significant theoretical implications for cognitive and neuropsychological models of memory. Cognitive psychologists and neuropsychologists have long been aware of false recognition, confabulation, and related kinds of memory distortions, but during the past several years research on these topics has increased rapidly. In recognition of this emerging domain of interest, this special issue of Cognitive Neuropsychology is devoted to the cognitive neuropsychology of false memories. Edited by Daniel L. Schacter, the special issue features experimental and theoretical contributions from leading cognitive psychologists, neuropsychologists, and neurologists that explore such issues as false recognition after frontal lobe damage, the nature of confabulation, amnesia and false memories, physiological correlates of memory illusions, memory distortions in normal and abnormal aging, and computational models of true and false memories.

The Coherence of Personality: Social-Cognitive Bases of Consistency, Variability, and Organization
Published in Hardcover by Guilford Press (29 March, 1999)
Authors: Daniel Cervone and Yuichi Shoda
Average review score:

A Must-Have for Psychology Students
As a graduate student, I plan on referring to this book often and highly recommend it.

The Coherence of Personality is an anthology of social-cognitive explorations, a springboard for future intellectual investigation, and a forum for considering many of the current, relevant topics within social-cognition as presented by the major theorists themselves.

I personally enjoyed the contributions regarding bottom-up theory, relational schemas, and the role of culture in the perspective of self by Cervone, Baldwin, and Kitayama & Markus, respectively.

Students interested in any theoretical slant within the field of psychology or related sub-disciplines will find a topic of interest in these modern essays.

Average review score:

Explains where today's political currents are sweeping us.
Has to be read more than once to get the full
impact. Once a reader understands what the
Scriptures teach about this subject, the
morning headlines will never be the same again.
This book illuminates the real issues in
the Middle East like nothing I have ever read
anywhere else. But it's not a quick read. You
have to think!

A Commentary on Daniel
Published in Paperback by Kregel Publications (August, 1988)
Author: Harry Bultema
Average review score:

Commentary on Daniel
As I began to read this commentary along with my bible, the book of Daniel was opened in a way I have never seen before. The author, Harry Bultema, had done extensive research on the historical events from Daniel's time up until 1920. He does a very thorough job of covering the world empires with much attention to Alexander the Great and his conquests. What I found facinating was that the book was written around 1915-1918 and the author makes references to prophecy yet unfilled in his day, however, clearly they have been fulfilled at this point in time. I would recommend this book for anyone who is interested in the prophecies of the book of Daniel.

A Community of Writers : Teaching Writing in the Junior and Senior High School
Published in Paperback by Heinemann (August, 1998)
Authors: Harvey Daniels and Steven Zemelman
Average review score:

The best book for junior and Senior high teachers
I first read this book as an undergrad, and then again the summer after my first year of teaching in the Writing Project. I found so many useful things that I could actually impliment in the classroom. Z and D offer many easy to follow suggestions that set off that "why didn't I think of that" response. They also suggest that we "break the red pen" habit when "rewriting" our students' papers. As I finish up my first full year of teaching, I look back and see the many times I turned to Z&D for help in solving a writer's problem.

Compiler Design Theory
Published in Hardcover by Addison-Wesley Publishing (January, 1976)
Authors: Philip M., Lewis, Richard E. Stearns, and Daniel J. Rosenkrantz
Average review score:

The good starting point, is embracing, neat and actual.
This book is a good starting point for anyone who needs to create a compiler, parser or scanner, but didn't read anything about compiler design theory yet. This book is completely self-contained and assumes only the familiarity with programming languages and the mathematical sophistication commonly found in juniors or seniors.

The material in this book has been taught for several years in one-semester first-year graduate courses at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., the State University of New York at Albany, and many other institutions. The bewildered looks of students in these institutions have motivated the authors to do several rewrites of the materials. That's why the book is pleasant to read and easy to understand.

The book contains a good introduction to state machines and all modern grammars, including, but not limited to, LALR(1).

Since the book doesn't cover code generation, but only lexical and syntax part, it is still actual since published 1976. For example, the most popular nowadays LALR(1) grammar, supported by Yacc and Bison, is a core of the GNU compiler and many other commercial compilers. But the book itself is tool-free, it explains the background that never expires, rather than bothering the reader with the tools which may exist today and vanish tomorrow. The example of such book with a mess of theory and tools is "Compilers: Principles, Techniques, and Tools" by by Alfred V. Aho.

The book "Compiler Design Theory" is embracing, neat and actual.
